The 50's are a sandwich generation of fitness; we don't want to work out like we did 15, 10 or even 5 years ago, yet we aren't ready for the "senior" classes either. I'm revamping this blog to be a blend of health and fitness tips that I hope all of you "fiftysomethings" will find helpful.

I've not posted a longer strength workout, so, here it is, and it comes from Bob Harper. It is a one hour strength workout for the entire body.
What I like about his workouts is that he always includes a warm up, cool down with stretch and modifications. He talks about form a lot, and that's a good thing.
You will need a set of dumbbells, a mat or carpeted area, your water bottle and maybe a towel to wipe that sweat off of your brow!
Today's workout is another awesome and insane 1,000 Calorie Burn Workout from FitnessBlender.
It is a 94 minute long bodyweight only workout--only a mat or carpeted area is needed, a warm up and cool down with stretch are both included.
It is another mash up type of workout, from the website:
In just this one video, you're going to find elements of high intensity interval training, bodyweight strength training, plyometrics, functional training, Pilates, kickboxing, yoga, and toning/strength workouts for each of the major muscle groups; abs, butt and thighs, and upper body. This is truly a mash up of so many different training types, which is part of what keeps things fresh and interesting over such a long workout video. It's also what makes the workout so effective.
Do what you can, modify when necessary and take longer breaks if you need to.
Here's your 5 minute bonus workout also from FitnessBlender:
From jessicasmithtv, this workout includes kickboxing, sculpting, HIIT, cardio, Pilates, toning, and fat burning. It is one hour long. You will need a set of weights, a mat and two paper plates if on a carpet or two small towels or wash cloths if you are on a regular floor for sliding.
Happy Thursday! Today's workout comes from jessicasmithtv. It is entitled Cardio Dance Sculpt. The great thing about dancing, at least to me, is that it doesn't feel like exercise. I just read a post from a fitness group I follow and it said this: "Exercise is like telling your body, "you're gonna hate me for this, but you'll thank me later." I don't necessarily agree with that. Exercise doesn't have to be torture.
This is a low impact, total body workout. Because it's not done at super high intensity, it is a longer workout--about an hour. This kind of workout is great to do in combination with shorter, higher intensity workouts on alternate days.
She does the entire thing barefoot. It's up to you if you want to wear shoes or not.
You will need some light weights or water bottles and a chair. She does a warm up and cool down.
Don't worry if you're not a natural dancer--Dance Like No One's Watching!!!
